We ran the searches a Reno homeowner actually runs — fence company, fence installation, fence repair, vinyl fence, automatic gate — in September 2026 and read the site of every local company that appeared, plus the ones a Yelp and Expertise.com roundup surfaced. Each profile is limited to what the company publishes about itself: services, service area, and anything unusual. No ratings, no review counts, no "licensed and insured" language we haven't checked. Fence companies serving Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County

1. Silver State Fence — Reno–Sparks.
   Specializes in: Wood, vinyl, iron, chain link, horizontal fencing, and automatic gates.

   Displays its Nevada contractor license number (0081526) on its homepage — the NRS 624.720 disclosure most sites skip — and notes a surge in repair requests after Reno windstorms. Also advertising on Google.

4. Nevada Fence — Northern Nevada.
   Specializes in: Custom fences, automatic gates, and access-control systems.
   The gate and access specialist of the group, and the only Reno-area installer publishing regulatory content (a Northern Nevada fence-regulations guide).

5. Reno Fence Pros — Reno and Carson City.
   Specializes in: Vinyl, chain link, split rail, and ranch fencing.
   The one Reno installer that publishes per-foot pricing on its site — the local rates quoted throughout this site's cost guide come from its pages.

6. Mule Fence Inc — Reno–Sparks and rural Washoe County.
   Specializes in: Wood, chain link, vinyl, iron, farm and ranch fencing, gates.
   One of the few local installers that lists agricultural and farm fencing alongside residential work — relevant for Washoe Valley and Palomino Valley parcels.

   Specializes in: Residential fencing and gates.
   Positions itself on Washoe County service area rather than the city; dedicated vinyl page but, like most local companies, no published pricing.

   The rental and fabrication lines set it apart — the company to call for a construction-site or event fence, or a custom metal piece.

   Ranks for repair searches in Reno, which usually means repair is a real part of the business rather than an afterthought to installs.

10. Guardian Gates & Fencing — Reno.
    Specializes in: Gates and fencing.
    Gate-forward name and gate-forward search presence; a second option alongside Nevada Fence for driveway gate automation.

11. The Fence Company Reno — Reno.
    Specializes in: Residential fencing.
    Family-owned, with a social-media-first presence rather than a full website.

The three checks that beat any ranking

1. Is the license number on the ad, the truck, and the website? NRS 624.720 requires Nevada contractor advertising to display the company name and license number. Of the companies above, JP Fence puts its number on its homepage; several others don't. A missing number isn't proof of a problem, but it means you're doing the lookup yourself instead of the company doing the disclosure the law asks for.

2. Does the license check out at app.nvcontractorsboard.com? Confirm three things: the license is active, the classification covers fencing — A-21 (Fencing and Guardrails), or a broader Class A or B license — and the name on the license is the exact name that will be on your contract and your deposit check. That last one matters: Nevada's Residential Recovery Fund has denied homeowner claims because the deposit was written to a trade name or a subsidiary instead of the licensed entity. 3. Is the deposit legal? NRS 624.970 limits a residential down payment to the lesser of $1,000 or 10% of the contract. On a $4,500 fence that's $450, not "half down." A company that asks for more is either unaware of the statute or ignoring it, and neither is what you want from the people setting posts on your property line.

Six questions to ask on the site visit

• How deep will posts be set, and in concrete? (Below Washoe County's 24-inch frost line is the answer you want.)

• For wood: board-on-board or shadowbox, and which species — cedar or redwood?

• For vinyl: what wall thickness, and are the bottom rails reinforced?

• Who pulls the permit through onenv.us if one is needed, and is the fee in the quote?

• Will you locate the property pins, or do I need a survey first?

• Is old-fence removal and haul-away included, or a separate line?
